A large cardon cactus being wrapped and dug for transplant.

When is this cactus was planted 15 years ago it was less than 18 inches tall.

The cardon, Pachycereus pringlei, is native to northwest Mexico. It is almost identical to the saguaro that grows in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. It grows much more quickly than the saguaro. However, it is not frost tolerant and not a good variety if you live in Phoenix or Tucson.
